The Rebels vs. the Old Empire

This is not a game that is really planned at this time. Just an idea about how we could set up a game. Maybe.

Let's say there would be 20 players. From those we would choose a team of 5 players and make the game teamless for the rest of the players.

Then we could set a limit of max 5-7 winners depending on how good the players on the team are.The winner could be a team or an alliance created from the teamless players. This could also be made more interesting by making the team size 4 and allowing them to add one of the rebels to the alliance.

Any idea if this would work?

Well... It will end up with the rest of the players teaming up into one or more alliances and you’ll simply end up with a more or less standard team game.

Re: The Rebels vs. the Old Empire

How about this;
Of the 20 players, 15 start as a team (Empire) and 5 as independents (Rebels).
Any time a player gets eliminated, they get restarted as an independent player with a few units on ships and techs that everyone has. (But maybe no non team diplomacy or ability to trade with each other?)
No independent player can win by themselves, they have to keep attacking the empire until they pick off a player to join them as a restarter.
If the empire has 2 or more members when the turn limit is reached, the empire wins by holding out against the endless rebellion for long enough.
If the empire is reduced to one player, then a turn counter starts and everyone else must eliminate the last empire player in x turns. In which case rebels win.

Re: The Rebels vs. the Old Empire

It would be more and less standard team game but with the twist that one of the teams would be known beforehand and one player could also join the team for the victory.

Why 15 as a team? I'm guessing that they would have no trouble beating 5 players. With the opposite the rebels can also play against each other since it's not a unified rebellion but with 15 independent players with 7 winning positions.

Yes I now see that spawning again might do the trick... I think we would need some new code to support that since it would be too much to be done by hand.

All of the numbers are of course only illustrative.
