The speed of the science?

LT37 has a 60% speed for science. That made it much faster compared to other games.

LT38 has 100% speed, meaning that the speed is 100% of the default value.

How fast should the science be for LT39?

Re: The speed of the science?

You mean LT37 had 60% *cost* for science?

I think that, if there is no tech exchange, 100% is just fine. If it's faster, you don't really get to use units before they get obsolete.

Speed, cost, rate... box... smile

We sure can use 100% for sciencebox.

Yes 100% is fine. However I would be okay with 120% to make Democracy more worthwhile.

120% is also doable. Any more opinions about this?

Also notice that fundamentalism now has some features similar to democracy.

Good by me. It lengthens the game, but get to enjoy each tech stage a little bit more.

Re: The speed of the science?

Yeah, 120% might be really interesting since the ancient techs will be actually used for a longer time and you can't just catch up in few turns by maxing sci.

Chill suggested that tech leakage shouldn't be at 100% but that wasn't changed at the time. Not sure if it should be changed but we could use some other value like 80% if we want to try something not that extreme?

Fine at 80%. It really is the only thing that gives other lesser developed nations a chance, so I don't mind it at 100%.

Re: The speed of the science?

I agree that science should be set so as to let players catch up, but also to make everyone make the most use of the tech they have. So ideally, construction of improvements and units should outpace research. City growth too, so there should actually be periods of stagnation where most cities have quickly hit size 8 or 16 and are waiting for research to eventually provide aqueduct or sewers.
In most games these are researched well before they are needed so growth never slows down.

Also agree that it should be possible to build and deploy a reasonable number of a certain unit before it becomes obsolete. This is often not the case and if research proceeds faster than you can effectively use it, then it encourages just sitting in one place sim-citying until you can win by production volume in the late game when everyone has the same units. Personally I find wars with ancient units much more interesting and it would be nice to see huge mongol hordes, roman legions or medieval crusades in play for longer periods, but mostly it just a rush to get through these eras and into the modern tech.

Also for players who like foccussing on research, the advantage of a tech that no one else has lasts longer if costs are higher.

These are all reasons why I like v slow research, even > 200% would be fine with me smile

Sciencebox is currently at 100% for LT38. How much more expensive it should be? 120% sounds reasonable but 200% could be a bit much even while interesting smile

I agree with Lord_P. Could be more fun with slow science. I suggest %150.
