Confused

Hi,

I was referred to play this game by some friends.  It says it's already started, but I see people saying later this week.  But it says it has started when I look.

When I run my programme, I have no idea how to connect to the game.  I have a feeling we could get a lot more players in these games if there were a major user-friendliness upgrade.  I'm rather rare to be inquiring like this. Most people might just give up.

Cheers!

Re: Confused

Hi,

are you talking about freeciv in general or longturn?

If you mean longturn the thing is, the process to build up a game here at longturn in general is rather complicated and demands therefore commitment to play, specially since an idler can disbalance the game heavily.

Now in this scenario-game (SG1) the situation is even more complicated since we "animated" the scenario and coudnt know until the end of the registrations how many people would join thus the delay by a week. It was mentioned in the forum.

Adding a player simply to the map is not possible but if after a few turns a player doesnt show up you can possibly replace him.

I hope I could help.

Re: Confused

Tha game has internally "started" in that no new players can sign up (or, more precisely, confirm their participation) anymore. However, since this game is going to have an advanced start, players can't just be randomly placed on the map, but every civ has to be prepared by hand instead. Then, all of it has to be tested to make sure it's more or less balanced, which takes a bit of time.

Once the game has started, the host and port information will be put up on the game's page and all of us will be able to connect from our Freeciv clients with our respective user names and passwords.

Re: Confused

Hi Alexandra!

Sorry about the confusion. Sketlux and Caedo are right about how the game will start. The web page says the game has started but it's really because of the technica reasons. This is the first scenario game ever on longturn.org and we are still learning about how to do the technical stuff and how to inform the players about this.

Usually the LT games are tested while the signups are proceeding but this time we are focusing on the map and testing that has not been possible without knowing who will be playing. The final settings are done by hand and then we will run a test game.

Once the test game is running, I will post here info about the port you need to connect to the game.
